What do we offer and why?

Having had to learn English as a teenager I found it hard work to learn new vocabulary, complicated grammar and tricky pronunciation during short lessons at school. Cherry Garth Languages offers a programme that makes studying English fun, accelerates learning and broadens your language skills.

How are we different?

Our unique blend of one-to-one lessons, activities and time spent with the tutor and her family gives learning English a purpose. You will get plenty of opportunity for conversation and even a bit of an insight into British culture. By living and studying in your tutor's home you are exposed to the English language during the entire length of your visit. During the lessons with your tutor you can focus on what is important to you in regards to your individual language development. With two children in the house you get to hear and join in conversations about daily life and many other topics. Taking part in optional activites gives you the chance to use English in yet another environment. As a result you quickly learn new vocabulary, understand the grammar used, improve your comprehension and pronunciation and therefore generally gain confidence in your own speaking ability.

We will look after you!

Every guest in our house is special to us whether you are ten years old or in your retirement. Children under the age of thirteen are not left on their own. Prior to arrival we ask parents to confirm ground rules for their children to ensure children and parents have the same expectations and feel reassured.

Who would you be staying with?

We are a happy, outgoing family of four. I grew up in Switzerland but have lived in the UK for the last 20 years. Before I started my own family I worked in professional business environments. Five years ago I gained the qualification to "Teach English as a Foreign Language" and have been teaching many children and adults since. I get an enormous amount of pleasure from students making progress, feeling comfortable in our house and enjoying themselves! After a 20 year career in IT management my husband has embarked on a career in teaching. His key subject is computing. He is English and has a great sense of humour. Our kids are mature, fun loving, active and love music. We laugh a lot and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities.

You would join us in our spacious five bedroom house and have your own comfortable, clean bedroom and bathroom. We invite students to join in with family life as much as they are comfortable with.
